What’s this event about?
We are a community-centered lindy hop weekend that creates a welcoming space where dancers connect and engage with each other, works with diverse instructors to teach in a collaborative learning space, addresses challenging issues in the dance scene, and works to build inclusive dance communities across the Midwest and beyond.
The goals of BHAII:
1: Build Connections
The first of our three main goals is to help dancers form genuine, lasting connections—no matter your home scene or experience level. We’re all united by the dance, but we want to go beyond just the moves and really get to know each other!
How will we make this happen? Expect lots of fun social activities and games woven into our dances and lessons—designed to help you connect with others in a meaningful way. Whether it’s sharing a meal with dancers from a different scene or chatting with someone who shares your interests at dedicated tables, we’re creating plenty of opportunities for you to bond.
2: Learn from Each Other
The second of our three main goals is creating space for attendees to learn from each other. Lindy hop is all about connection, and we believe that the heart of this dance lies in collaborative creativity, so we want to bring that spirit into our classes!
Instead of traditional leveled classes or tracks, we’re offering group sessions designed to encourage collaboration. Expect exercises that focus on giving compliments, actively listening, and building each other up. We’ll be throwing in some fun community moments as well, like jam circles and steal jams. Plus, we’ll host facilitated practice sessions where you can share ideas, work on improvising, and get valuable feedback. We all have something to teach and something to learn!
3: Create a space where ALL feel welcome & accepted
Our third and final goal is dedicated to creating a space where everyone feels welcomed, accepted, and valued—no matter who you are. Ever felt out of place at a lindy hop event, surrounded by dancers, yet still felt isolated? At this event, we’re building a community where you can be yourself without fear of judgment.
How is that going to happen? By encouraging connection and collaboration at every class, activity, and dance, we hope to create an environment where you feel comfortable sharing, learning, and growing together. Our community discussions will provide a safe space to address the challenges you might face in your home scene—whether it’s making new connections or navigating tricky social dynamics.
Let’s make this an event where everyone feels at home. 💜
